Organising an event is a complex business, and with so many balls to juggle it’s easy for things to go wrong or for communication to break down. It is, therefore, very important to avoid a ‘just do it’ approach, and instead to use well-proven project management techniques which puts everyone in control and makes the businesses more efficient.

This one-day course on project management for events covers the principles of project management and adapts them to deal with the particular demands of conferences and exhibitions. It will provide you with a model to define the roles and responsibilities of project team members, to develop the operational plan, and ensure that communication lines are open and clear.

The day also provides you with the essential skills, tools and practical techniques that you will need to support you in your project management role, and will make you more confident in managing your event. This course is led by a Prince 2 qualified trainer who is also an expert in events.

Understanding project deliverables and stakeholder requirements

  • What will a successful event look like?

Planning

  • Defining the stages and the deliverables for each stage
  • Timings, resources, and activities
  • Planning tools which are freely available

Communicating the plan

  • Agreeing and delegating project responsibilities with the project team

Risk management

  • Identifying potential risks and actions/changes to counter
  • Preventing nasty surprises

Monitoring and reporting

  • Status updates, changes to the plan, implication of changes

Post event

  • Activity: the ‘post-event trickle’
  • Measuring success
